STEAM FESTIVAL 2010: Saturday
and Sunday 1+2 of May , 2010 |
|

|
The annual steam festival
will be held at Maldegem, Belgium, on Saturday and Sunday 1+2 of
May , 2010.
The main attraction this year will be two special trains running to Maldegem from
Brussels.
On the Saturday, the train will run to Maldegem steam hauled by an ex Rumanian Prussian P8
4-6-0 restored as a
Belgian class 64. The return to Brussels will be with a heritage diesel
loco.
On the Sunday, The diesel will bring the train to Maldegem, and the P8
will work the return in the evening. The locos will therefore be
present at the festival on both days with the P8 working trains on the
preserved line to Eeklo.
A standard gauge locomotive will be visiting from the Railway at
Fond-du-Gras in Luxembourg. This will be Belgian Societe Energie built large 0-6-0t “Luc”.
This loco spent its working life at the coke works in Zeebrugge and has
recently been restored in Eastern Europe.
Maldegem’s own loco’s, Avonside
0-4-0st “FRED”, and Polish “Ferrum”
0-6-0t “GENERAL MACEK” will also be in service. This locomotive
previously worked on the Northhampton Steam Railway in England.
An interesting program, similar to previous years, has been
devised. An intensive service will run to Eeklo on the standard
gauge including a couple of freight workings to Balgerhoeke.
On the narrow gauge line, trains will be operated by the familiar
Kerr-Stuart 0-4-0st “PETER
PAN” together with a sister loco "WREN" from the Vale of Rheidol
Railway. On this line, there will also be an intensive service in
operation.
Negotiations are still in hand for one or two extra “surprise”
attractions.
In Maldegem, there will be the usual selection of trade stands, cinema
coach, model railways, non-railway steam exhibits and passenger
carrying live steam track. Also the opportunity to catch up on
the latest progress on loco restorations – La Meuse 0-6-0t “Bebert” and St Leonard 0-4-0t “Yvonne” are both
progressing well.
